President John Dramani Mahama has announced that government has approved the recruitment of at least 16,000 new teachers as part of efforts to clear the backlog of trained graduates awaiting employment.
he President made the announcement during an inspection of the newly completed 1,500-capacity multipurpose assembly hall at the Peki College of Education as part of #Resetting Ghana Tour in the Volta Region. Africans& Diaspora
Addressing students and staff, President Mahama said the recruitment exercise is intended to ensure that graduates from the colleges of education do not spend long periods waiting for employment after completing their training.
“We’re trying to clear the backlog of your seniors who have finished and have not yet been employed. We’ve given clearance for the Ministry of Education to start employing at least 16,000 new teachers,” he said.
President Mahama also reaffirmed his government’s commitment to strengthening colleges of education through improved infrastructure and better learning conditions.
He said government is constructing hostels and other educational facilities across the country’s colleges of education to enhance teaching and learning.
The President assured students and management of Peki College of Education that the institution would benefit from these interventions.
“I can assure you that your institution is not going to be left out,” he said.
